circle of life
Paula Mae Borkum Becker
1942-2012
Greg's Mum, Stephanie's Mother-in-Love, and Rex, Lennon and Baby #3's Grammy passed away on Thursday, April 19. Photo from early 1970s.
Paula meeting Rex. 2007
“There is such a concept of loss. Loss and how we react to loss. We think of things in a straight line: birth-life-death. That’s not really how it works. You take those ends and you bend it into a circle so it’s birth-life-death-REbirth. So you have to be prepared when you lose something – when you go through a divorce, when your mother dies, when you lose your house you have to understand that nature has it no other way. There is a rebirth. The death is painful. It doesn’t change the pain of the death. But you gotta stay awake and stay focused for what’s the rebirth that God is about to offer you.”
- Will Smith, on Oprah 11/6/2008
(I know, Will Smith? But, I liked the quote.)
Paula meeting Lennon. 2010
We know Grammy wanted to see our newest addition, and believe she is meeting him or her first, before any of us! Eight was her lucky number, we welcome her eighth grandchild shortly.

coach greg and rex
Rex had his first t-ball game today. He LOVED it. He slid into home plate each time he came around the bases.

We are ready to meet this baby! Rex and Lennon will share a room, the nursery is all set up, car seat in the MINI-VAN (yes, automatic sliding doors!) and hospital bags packed. Rex and Lennon talk about Fossil being born soon, Fossil coming out of Mommy. All very sweet, anticipatory talk around the house!
The quilts in Rex and Lennon's room were hand sewn by my Great-Grandmother, Ora Troxel. The one on Lennon's crib was my baby quilt. The one on Rex's bed was a high school graduation gift to my father.
The night light is a scene of Little Red Riding Hood. Lennon had it in her nursery. It was in my room as a little girl and was a gift to my grandmother when my mother was born. I remember being so scared of that wolf and that lamp as a little girl!
Rex was a very disgruntled photographer, the battery in his camera died during our photo shoot.
Black and white abstract art by Rex next to hand printed curtains by Stephanie.
There are many handmade elements in all the kids rooms, love. I made pillow cases for the kids, the curtains and mobil in the nursery. There's some art hanging by the kids and myself in the rooms. Family heirlooms add a sweet touch. Love the duck and lamb Hatch Show prints on loan from longtime friend, Jilah Kalil. And lots and lots of color!
